ANGLETERRE ECOSSE ET IRLANDE

Attractive and very rare small map of the British Isles.

Essentially this map is by Picart (and based closely on the V rare Boisseau) but was published by Jollian, this is the last Picart Jollian edition before a revised Du Val .

'Not much is known about Nicolas Picart. He is known as an engraver and a mapmaker who produced a map of Africa with decorative panels in 1644. He is also known to have published editions of Tresor des cartes geographiques from 1651 to c.1659,.. There are two examples of the c.1659 edition of Tresor des cartes geographiques (one in a private collection and one at the Nationale de France in Paris).'

Shortly after 1659, Gerard Jollain (1638-c.1724) acquired the Picart copperplates. He published later editions of Tresor... in c.1660 (an undated edition), and in 1667. This is the undated edition

Professionally repaired worm holes mainly in margin a couple in printed area invisible from front.

Unusual with original outline colour.

Very good condition for this rare map
