Map of the 18th century Spanish territories of New Spain and New Mexico together with islands of the Caribbean. Accurate coastlines and good delineation of the rivers along the Texas coast. Named cities include Taos, Albuquerque and Santa Fe in New Mexico, and St. Augustine and Pensacola in Florida. Florida has mountains, and in contrast with earlier, more accurate representations, its southern tip is split up into a group of islands. Baja California is shown as a peninsula, but its width is exaggerated. The map includes an inset of the Azores next to attractive etched cartouche by Arrivet.Original outline colour,Mint condition.

I. Indiae Occidentalis partem mediam circum Isthmum Panamensem..Attractive map of West Indies with Five maps and a plan one sheet. The large central map of the West Indies and Central America is titled "Carte des Isles de lAmerique et Deplusieurs Pays de Terre Ferme" and acknowledges D'Anville as the source. The coloured key indicates European possessions. Other maps show the Isthmus of Panama, a plan of St. Augustine in Florida, the lower part has plans of Vera Cruz and San Domingo and a large panorama of Mexico in the centre.Slight age toning.Full hand colour..Good condition. Beautiful and rare map from 'L'Isole Piu Famose Del Mondo ' by Tomaso Porcacchi,Porcacchi's famous and beautiful isolario, containing maps of the islands of the world.The map is one of the earliest copper engraved maps one can find.This is from the 1575 (second edition and a copy of the dated colophon will be included) and the maps are a very strong impression.In fact the islands of the NEW WORLD were not in the first edition therefore this is the first printing.Set in a page of text.Cartouche, sea monsters,compass rose.Mint condition.
