RARE "Eigentliche Delineation der Insulen S. Margarite und St. Honorat". This is an uncommon map of the islands of St. Margarite and St. Honorat in the bay of Cannes. The islands were fortified to protect the coast of Provence in the early seventeenth century. In 1635, the Spanish invaded and expanded the fortifications. This map illustrates the French campaign against the Spanish that resulted in the return of the islands to French control in 1637. A key to the map is below the title and a large inset map depicts the islands and coastline from Cap d'Antibes to Theoule-sur-Mer.Hand colour.Mint condition.

Rare.Really STUNNING full original colour.Decorative map showing the south of France, namely the ‘Languedoc’ with Narbonne in its centre and interestingly Perpignan is in Catalonia.The map is ornated with a large decorative title cartouche, a milage scale and a small cartouche with a dedication to Jansson and Melchior Tavernier.Slight wear to bottom of centrefold otherwise a superb map.

Superb map of Provence. Interestingly this map came from Theatre Geographique de la France Contenant les Cartes et Description Particulieres des Provinces d'iceluy Royaume. A Paris, Chez Melchior Tavernier, Graveur & Imprimeur du Roy pou les Cartes Geographiques, 1643. Tavernier used or bought the franch regional maps from Blaeu/Janzoon or reprinted the plates. An attractive and detailed map of the French region of Provence. Sailing ships and decorative compass roses adorn the waters of the Mediterranean, whilst the French royal arms appear boldly near the title cartouche. Finely engraved and with attractive original colour, this map exemplifies the Blaeu style. The family's publishing endeavours ensured their maps were, and still are, renowned for the consummate care and attention apparent in every stage of production - using only the best paper. Excellent hand colour. Very good condition.
