Uncoomon map of Turkey.Decorative coloured map of Asia Minor with several Greek Island and the Western part of Turkey and the Bosporus. From "A New Sett of Maps both of Antient and Present Geography" by Edward Wells an English clergyman, teacher and mathematician, born in 1667. All map are dedicated to William the Duke of Gloucester who died 1700, the year of the first edition of the atlas. The Wells maps have been much valued during the beginning of the 18th century because of its accuracy.

A superb example of De L'Isles highly detailed map of the region.The map extends west to include Sicily, the Southeastern Mediterreanean, Barbaria, Nigritie, and a Guinea on the West Coast of Africa. To the east, the map includes the Persian Gulf, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf of Aden and the Kingdom of Ajan and Dadel. De L'Isle's maps provided the first truly scientific mapping of the regions covered avoiding the flamboyant Dutch style of illustrations and adopting a highly detailed and decorative approach to the printed map. The result is a combination of spectacular detail and accuracy.Original outline colour.Mint condition.

Detailed map, showing and naming many historical places in the Holy Land and depicting the 12 tribes.The cartouches are illustrated with allegories to the old testament. Some damp staining mainly in margins but affecting printed surface on left,otherwise a stunning map in good condition.
