ENVIRONS OF LONDON
Date: 1837 London
Size: 20*24 cms
Uncomon map of London by Moule.
The map is hand coloured, extremely decorative .. It features a vignettes of Wellington Arch, Hammersmith Bridge, London Bridge and the new Post Office. The map just pre-dates the railway era and shows the built-up area of the city concentrated at high density on the north bank of the Thames. Outside the city, hundreds of tiny rural settlements, which today form suburban sprawl, and joined by sparse ribbon development along roads. The capital's environs stretch from Tottenham and Finchley in the north, to Tooting and Sydenham in the south; and from Woolwich and Wansted in the east to Wembley and Richmond in the west.
Condition is good to fair for this rare map with a few nicks and stains in margin.
