L'ARABIA

Sold

An attractive map of Arabia from the "Atlante Novissimo" by Antonio Zatta. The map's title appears in a decorative surround in the upper right corner - flanked by palms and incense. Coastal towns and cities are named while an indication of relief is given in interior Arabia. With attractive outline colour delineating each of the different areas and highlighting the cartouche. Engraved by G.Pitteri, whose signature is given at lower right. Antonio Zatta was perhaps the leading Italian map-maker working in the 1770's and 1780's, based in Venice. His major publication was the "Atlante Novissimo ...", a four volume atlas of the world. This was published in four volumes between 1775 and 1785 in Venice with some 240 maps engraved by G.Pitteri, G.V.Pasquali and G.Zuliani. A decorative map of this sought-after region.
