Superb folio full plate street scene in Cairo. One of the most sought after full plates from David Roberts Egypt & the Holy Land.

The lithograph shows the area between the 2 walls of the Sultan Al Ghuri complex with the area roofed over and used as a space for the silk market and where merchants could meet trade gossip and drink tea.

This superb full folio lithograph (lithowork by Louis Haghe) is one of the more atmospheric of the Roberts ..

David Roberts (1796-1864) RA RBA Scottish painter best known for his series of fine lithographic prints of the Near East after sketches made from his tours from 1838-1840. The lithographs were published in a six volume elephant folio work rom 1842-1849.
